How to think more systemically

One doesn't have to use a formal process to think systemically (in terms of system-wide patterns).  It's not an "all or nothing" thing.

There are two small changes that can help one think more systemically:

  1. Generate lots of elements/alternatives instead of a few
1.1.  When one can't think of any (start with something silly)
1.2.  When one can't choose between a few options
  2. Look for themes ("In what way are they similar?") across the elements/alternatives
2.1.  When it's hard to make a choice or decision
2.2.  When there seems to be too much data.

There will always be a common theme or a repeating pattern across the elements.   Always.

Always!
